A+E Architects designed a renovation to an existing 2 bedroom cottage along the Westport River. The addition rebuilt a portion of the first floor and added a second floor above the entire cottage to expand the sleeping area for the extended family who stay there. The river elevation provides ample windows for views and natural ventilation. A large screened in porch provides comfortable exterior space. The interiors reflect the cottage spirit of the home, with white beadboard and trim.
sustainable features:renovation included salvage of existing foundation and framing wherever possible, durable materials were use for interior and exterior finishes, passive ventilation is provided for the entire cottage with cross-ventilation, new energy efficient windows and upgraded insulation |
