A+E Architects designed a renovation to an existing 2 bedroom cottage along the Westport River. The addition rebuilt a portion of the first floor and added a second floor above the entire cottage to expand the sleeping area for the extended family who stay there. The river elevation (shown above) provides ample windows for views and natural ventilation. A large screened in porch (right) provides comfortable exterior space. The interiors reflect the cottage spirit of the home, with white beadboard and trim.

sustainable features: renovation included salvage of existing foundation and framing wherever possible, durable materials were use for interior and exterior finishes, passive ventilation is provided for the entire cottage with cross-ventilation, new energy efficient windows and upgraded insulation
