windsCAPE:

bd1

An ideas competition sponsored by the Boston Society of Architects, Windscape sought to engage a discussion with design regarding the proposed wind farm on Nantucket Sound. This response attempted to address the harbor, the shore and the sound with subtle interventions. At the harbor, Hyannis' bustling waterfront, a single 10 kW wind turbine with tower is proposed to mark the point of departure for boats leaving to see the wind farm closer. At the shore, Hyannis' popular Kalmus Beach, a visitor's center is designed to sit lightly on the site and frame the view of the wind farm from the land. At the sound, the turbine's grid was reconfigured with curves to soften its appearance from the shore.
