A+E designed an addition and renovation to transform a simple 1950's ranch near Barnstable Harbor into a more classic Cape, inspired by the historic Capes of nearby Barnstable Village, and of Nantucket. The addition adds a second floor Master Bedroom and guest room, as well as a family room to the rear. Special attention has been paid to the insulation details to make the house very energy efficient. |
sustainable features: reuse of salvaged materials from on site including framing and foundation, engineered wood for new addition, new high performance windows, continuous layer of rigid insulation for high performance thermal envelope, no new heating at addition which more than doubled the size of the house
