construction recycling: recycle as many building materials as possible, both on-site and using local transfer stations |
salvaged materials: consider using salvaged materials such as clawfoot tubs, refinished wood flooring, |
recycled content materials: utilize materials with both post-consumer and post-industrial recycled contect for example: denim insulation, carpets with recycled plastic components |
regional materials : use materials produced or manufactured within +/- 500 miles of building site. This takes into account the embodied energy of transporting materials. |
rapidly renewable materials: utilize materials that can replaced within 10 years or less for example bamboo or cork flooring in place of oak floors (50-100 years to replace itself) |
FSC certified wood products: utilize certified wood for framing, millwork etc. This certification ensures the forests from which the wood came are being managed sustainably. |
